Disaster-relief officials face possible contempt in House

A House subcommittee chairman said Wednesday he will recommend that top officials of the nation's disaster relief agency be held in contempt of Congress for refusing to appear at a hearing investigating possible fraud and waste.

Rep. Albert Gore (D) of Tennessee, chairman of the science and technology investigations subcommittee, said he'll make the same recommendation for officials of two firms doing business with the Federal Emergency Management Agency - the Triton Corporation and IMR Corporation.

The FEMA officials include agency director Louis O. Giuffrida, deputy director Robert Morris, executive deputy director Gerald S. Martin, and four other officials.
