European and third-world nations sign aid accord

The 10 European Community countries and 65 developing nations Saturday signed the third Lome Convention, a development aid and commerce accord valued at more than $6 billion.

The pact, covering 1985-89, will provide grants and loans to participating developing countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific region. It also removes customs duties for most of the developing countries' imports to the European Community.
