McNamara says he didn't feel Westmoreland would deceive

Former Defense Secretary Robert McNamara testified Thursday he never felt Gen. William Westmoreland would deceive him or President Lyndon Johnson on the number of enemy troops in South Vietnam. He added that if General Westmoreland ''did deceive, it wouldn't make any difference because I believed the war couldn't be won militarily.''

The retired general claims the 1982 CBS documentary ''The Uncounted Enemy: A Vietnam Deception'' falsely accused him of deliberately lying to his superiors about the number of enemy troops during the Vietnam war. He is suing CBS for $ 120 million.
