Medical council will study ethics of heart implant plan

The American Medical Association's judicial council says it will review the ethical questions surrounding plans by the for-profit Humana hospital chain to conduct five more artificial-heart implants within a year, following that of William Schroeder. The council is meeting this week in Hawaii.

Humana's plans represent the ''wrong approach and the wrong setting,'' says one council member, Dr. David I. Olch, who is quoted in an unsigned article in the American Medical News.
