Quarterback Doug Flutie awarded Heisman Trophy

As expected, Boston College quarterback Doug Flutie was awarded the Heisman Trophy Saturday as the nation's outstanding college football player. The 5 ft. 10 in., 175 lb. senior played in his last regular-season college game against Holy Cross Saturday afternoon, which B.C. won 45-10. Flutie then caught a flight to New York for the silver anniversary awards presentation at the Downtown Athletic Club.

A virtually overlooked high school prospect from Natick, Mass., Flutie became the first collegian to pass for 10,000 yards in his career. He also has earned Scholar-Athlete recognition and has been nominated for a Rhodes Scholarship.
