Reagan, GOP leaders meet to seek ways to cut budget

President Reagan, seeking ways to chop almost $100 from the federal budget in three years, met with Republican congressional leaders Thursday for the first time since his reelection and discussed the cuts.

The White House is considering putting all the domestic spending cuts into one sweeping bill and sending it to Capitol Hill in hopes it would be more difficult for opponents to reject as a package, according to one senior White House official.

Top congressional Republicans told President Reagan yesterday that military spending increases must be restrained. Also on the meeting's agenda was the newly released Treasury Department plan to overhaul the tax system.
