An Oct. 26 article on Page 9 incorrectly stated that the Philippines armed forces chief of staff, Fabian Ver, had been taking a stance independent of the government and had been considering running for president in 1987. In fact, the reference should have been to Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile.

The Christian Science Monitor will not be published on Nov. 12, a national holiday in the United States.
