Reputed Mafia figure indicted in New York

The reputed underboss of the Gambino family, the most powerful organized-crime family in the United States, was indicted Thursday on charges of income tax evasion. Aniello (O'Neill) DellaCroce was arrested here Wednesday night and faces up to eight years if convicted.

The Gambinos are believed to have been the inspiration for the novel ''The Godfather'' and are reputedly the most powerful of New York City's five La Cosa Nostra families.
