UAW sets strike deadline in talks with Canadian Ford

The United Automobile Workers union set a deadline of noon Nov. 9 for a strike against Ford Motor of Canada if there is no contract settlement for the 14,000 employees the UAW represents there. About 13,800 hourly and 400 salaried workers at Ontario plants in five cities have been working without a new contract since Sept. 14.

Meanwhile, Ford and top UAW leaders in the US signed a new three-year pact covering 115,000 US union members. Workers ratified the agreement on Monday.
