Toxic leak suspected at dump used in Superfund storage

Toxic chemicals may be leaking from a dump near here used to store wastes transferred from Love Canal and other dump sites under the Superfund law, federal investigators say. The Environmental Protection Agency is not sure whether the leak is extending outside the site, a Cecos International landfill and adjacent old Du Pont chemical company dump, said Lee Thomas, assistant administrator of the EPA. But he said an investigative team is being sent in to check whether people living near the dump are threatened.
