Beirut Marine bombing marked around the US

A ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery Tuesday was one of several remembrances around the nation of the attack last Oct. 23 on the US Marine barracks in Lebanon which killed 241 American servicemen.

The program was highlighted by the dedication of a tree, a 14-foot-high cedar of Lebanon, which had been planted last May in a section of the cemetery where a number of the Beirut dead are buried.

As the ceremony ended, dozens of children dressed in costumes of peoples around the world passed by the tree with roses symbolizing their hope for unity and an end to terrorism.
