Franccois Truffaut, 'New Wave' director

Francois Truffaut, who passed on here Sunday, was a leader of the group of French directors who revolutionized modern cinema with their ''New Wave'' movement in the 1960s.

A native of Paris, Mr. Truffaut wrote as well as directed most of his 25 major films and short works, and he acted in some of them. He was especially known for his films ''400 Blows'' and ''Jules and Jim.''
