Greek premier visits Poland; more Western warmup seen

Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou was greeted by Communist Party leader Wojciech Jaruzelski and his entire Cabinet on his arrival in Poland Monday. Mr. Papandreou's visit is expected to speed up the normalization of political and economic relations with the West and the lifting of sanctions. It follows a trip by Austrian Foreign Minister Leopold Gratz last week, the first visit by a Western official to the country since martial law was imposed in December 1981.

Papandreou arrived from Sweden, where he criticized the US-led sanctions as harming detente. Greece was the only NATO state to refuse to join the sanctions.
