Professor who coined 'GNP' wins Nobel economics award

Sir Richard Stone, who gave the world the concept of gross national product, won the 1984 Nobel Prize in Economics Thursday. The Cambridge University professor was once an assistant to John Maynard Keynes. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said it honored Sir Richard for ''fundamental contributions to the development of systems of national accounts, and hence greatly improved the basis for empirical economic analysis.''
