New home starts rebounded 8.9% last month, US reports

New home construction rose 8.9 percent in September, rebounding from two straight monthly declines, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. It said new housing was started at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.67 million units last month, up from 1.54 million units in August. Analysts have blamed higher interest rates for the slump.
