New attempt to expel Israel from United Nations loses

An attempt by Iran to have Isra el expelled from the United Nations was defeated at the General Assembly, Monitor correspondent Louis Wiznitzer reports. A motion to postpone the issue indefinitely, made by Denmark, was adopted 80 to 41, with 22 abstentions. Last year a Norwegian motion in the same context was defeated 79 to 43, with 26 abstaining or not participating in the vote. Iran, Syria, and Libya based their request that Israel be expelled on the argument that Israel is not ''a peace-loving country,'' and referred to the masacres at the Sabra and Shatilah camps.
