Manila marks anniversary of 1944 MacArthur landing

The city of Manila honored 93 American veterans of World War II with a dinner Saturday night that opened a week of ceremonies on the 40th anniversary of Gen. Douglas MacArthur's landing to drive the Japanese out of the Philippines.

On Oct. 20, 1944, General MacArthur landed at Red Beach on Leyte Island, 310 miles southeast of Manila.
