Duarte asks church to take mediation role in Salvador
President Jose Napoleon Duarte said Thursday he has rejected a request by the Salvadorean guerrilla leaders that Colombian President Belisario Betancur act as a go-between for their talks next week. Instead, Mr. Duarte asked the Roman Catholic Church to assume that role.
