Homeless in New York City allowed to register to vote

Ruling it is unconstitutional to bar the homeless from voting, a federal judge ordered the New York City Board of Elections to allow the homeless to register to vote, even if they live on the streets.

The decision Tuesday evening ''demonstrates clearly that homeless people are full-fledged citizens with the same constitutional rights as everyone else,'' said Robert Hayes, counsel for the Coalition for the Homeless, a privately supported advocacy group.
