Bangladeshi opposition leader killed in martial law protests

Three people were reported killed, including an opposition leader, and scores injured in clashes between pro- and antigovernment demonstrators on Thursday during a nationwide general strike against martial law in Bangladesh. President Hussain Mohammed Ershad, who took power in a bloodless coup in March 1982, has said he will not lift martial law until after the elections.
