Fog delays Pope in bringing message to Canadian Indians

Fog diverted Pope John Paul II's airplane yesterday and delayed his message of hope and support for Indians struggling for self-determination in Canada's remote north.

His three-hour meeting with Indian and Eskimo leaders at the Northwest Territories village of Fort Simpson, 1,000 miles north of Seattle, was designed to show church concern for the grievances of Canadian natives. One Indian spokesman said the session would give the outside world a glimpse of the impoverished lives of North American native peoples.
