3 Polish parliament members join foes of political expulsion

Three independent Roman Catholic members of the Polish parliament have criticized a proposal that would give communist authorities the power to expel their political opponents. A public debate over the proposal has raged since Sept. 4, when government spokesman Jerzy Urban outlined it in a news conference.

Last Friday, Polish newspapers reported that the communist authorities had appointed a controversial Roman Catholic political activist, Janusz Stefanowicz, as the country's ambassador to France. He is the vice-chairman of the PAX Catholic Association, which is allied with the ruling Communist Party.
