Chicago Teamsters local votes to back Mondale

A Chicago Teamsters local, one of the largest in the country, has voted to endorse Walter Mondale, even though the union's national leadership is backing President Reagan, officials said Tuesday.

The 24,000-member local voted 72 percent in favor of the Democratic presidential candidate, with about 3,500 members taking part in the poll. Last month the union's national executive board voted unanimously to back Mr. Reagan after a poll among the 1.7 million members nationwide, to which 25,000 responded , showed 53 percent favoring Reagan.
