Reagan orders study to weigh curbs on imports of tobacco

President Reagan ordered the International Trade Commission Monday to launch a top-priority investigation of tobacco imports to help him determine whether to impose trade restrictions to protect the domestic tobacco industry and the federal price support program.

Meanwhile, after months of delay, legislation to strengthen health warnings on cigarette packs was passed yesterday by the House on a voice vote, with no opposition expressed.
