US's top Africa hand praises Kenya as an economic model

Chester Crocker, US assistant secretary of state for African affairs, praised Kenya's economic policies Wednesday, saying they had served as an example to both developed and developing countries.

Mr. Crocker said his talks with Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi covered regional issues and negotiations over the independence of Namibia (South-West Africa), which South Africa rules in defiance of UN resolutions. The United States has provided $800 million to Kenya since its independence.

Crocker had earlier visited Cape Verde, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Uganda.
