US 2nd-quarter GNP hums while rise in inflation eases

The economy grew at a rapid 7.6 percent annual rate during the last quarter, according to revised figures on gross national product, while inflation remained in check, the government reported Monday.

The inflation rate, as measured by the GNP price deflator, was put at 3.2 percent in the second quarter, down from a 4.4 percent rate in the first three months of the year.
