Settlements in occupied lands condemned at UN conference

Over the objections of US and Israeli delegates, the UN Conference on Population here ended Tuesday night with the adoption of an Arab-sponsored resolution condemning settlements in occupied lands. The resolution was considered critical of Israel, which occupies the West Bank of the Jordan River and the Gaza Strip, territory seized during the 1967 Middle East war. The resolution was approved 87 to 2, with 26 abstentions.
