Heroes' welcome greets US Olympians in capital

US Olympic medal winners were given a welcome to the nation's capital yesterday usually reserved for heroes. An estimated 25,000 people turned out to honor them as they rode down Pennsylvania Avenue in four ''Tourmobiles.'' The parade began near the White House and ended at the Capitol, where the Olympians were honored with a joint congressional resolution citing their achievements in Los Angeles and a musical tribute from the Air Force Band.

The United States won 174 medals, including 83 golds at the 23rd Olympiad.
