The Ferraro factor

July 23, 1984

In her few days since selection as Walter Mondale's vice-presidential running mate, Rep. Geraldine Ferraro has handled herself admirably, combining professionalism and femininity. A continuation of this level of performance will make her a formidable addition to the Democratic ticket.

In her acceptance speech, Representative Ferraro projected just the right combination of strength and womanly qualities.

In subject and demeanor she showed she can be firm: The former assistant prosecutor called for vigorous action on crime and came out for a strong national defense. Her tone was appropriately tough, but not harsh.

Qualities of gentleness and caring came through when she discussed other subjects of importance to her and all Americans: peace, family.
