Nicaragua opposition names presidential candidate

Nicaragua's main opposition group has named Arturo Cruz Porras, a former ambassador to Washington, as its as presidential candidate in the November election.

But the conservative four-party group, known as the Democratic Coordinator, said it would not register any of its candidates until the ruling Sandinist National Liberation Front met its demands.

Spokesman Ramiro Gurdian told a press conference that these included a complete lifting of the current state of emergency, press freedom and an amnesty for alleged political prisoners.
