Hanoi to return remains of 8 US soldiers

Vietnam will return the remains of eight US soldiers this week in a move that may signal Hanoi's willingness to help resolve the fate of 2,490 Americans listed as missing in action in the Vietnam war, US officials said Sunday.

It will be the first time in more than a year that Hanoi has turned over the remains of US soldiers.

Secretary of State George Shultz said Friday that Washington could not consider normalizing relations with Vietnam unless Hanoi cooperated in accounting for Americans still missing after the Vietnam war.
