McEnroe handily defeats Connors at Wimbledon

Defending champion John McEnroe overwhelmed fellow American Jimmy Connors 6-1 , 6-1, 6-2, on Sunday to win the Wimbledon men's singles crown for the third time in four years. Mr. McEnroe, in his fifth consecutive appearance in the Wimbleton final, became the first American to win the title back-to-back since Don Budge in 1937-38.

On Saturday, Martina Navratilova defeated Chris Evert Lloyd, 7-6, 6-2 to capture the women's single finals. It was Ms. Navratilova's third Wimbledon win in a row. She later teamed with Pam Shriver for a fourth straight women's doubles crown, defeating Kathy Jordan and Anne Smith 6-3, 6-4.
