'Frozen enbryo' baby born in the Netherlands

A Dutch doctor has announced the birth of a boy produced from a frozen embryo , the second such birth in the world. The baby was born Thursday night at the Dijkzigt University Hospital, said Dr. A. Alberda, a member of the medical team that oversaw the procedure. The infant was in ''excellent condition,'' Dr. Alberda said.

Theoretically, he said, the ovum could have remained frozen for a century before being fertilized.

The first birth from a frozen embryo occurred earlier this year in Australia.
