Kennedy expected to endorse Mondale today

Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy will endorse Walter Mondale for the 1984 Democratic presidential nomination today, Mondale campaign sources said. A Kennedy endorsement at this time would help the Minnesotan snuff out Gary Hart's flickering hopes for the party's presidential nomination.

Senator Kennedy and Mr. Mondale exchanged bitter charges during the 1980 presidential campaign, in which Kennedy sought to thwart President Carter's bid for the Democratic nomination. Mondale was Mr. Carter's vice-president.
