Israel bans second party from July 23 elections

The national elections committee ruled Tuesday that a Jewish-Arab party whose leaders have met with the Palestine Liberation Organization cannot participate in the July 23 parliamentary election. The vote was 17 to 12, with four abstentions. It was the second party the panel has banned this week. Both parties have announced they will appeal the ban.

The Progressive List for Peace supports the creation of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip - areas Israel captured from its Arab neighbors in the 1967 Middle East war.
