Nicaragua, Costa Rica plan border watchdog

Nicaragua and Costa Rica have agreed to set up a multinational commission to watch over their tense border, according to the foreign ministers of the two nations.

In a joint statement, Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Miguel d'Escoto and his Costa Rican counterpart, Carlos Jose Gutierrez, said Wednesday that the commission would be composed of a high-level representative from each country as well as four more from the peace-seeking Contadora group - Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama. The commission is due to start its work May 26.
