Danish parliament to stop its NATO missile funding

The Danish parliament voted Thursday to stop payments for the NATO deployment of new US nuclear missiles in Western Europe, with the nation's center-right government abstaining on the measure.

The decision made Denmark the first member of the alliance to withdraw completely from the deployment, begun late last year, of 572 new medium-range missiles in five NATO countries. None of the missiles would have been placed on Danish soil.
