Quebec gunman wounds 2; is in standoff with police

A gunman wounded two people on a city street Wednesday and took refuge in a house, holding police at bay with a shotgun, the Canadian Press new agency said. He was reportedly upset over the killing of three people by a soldier who opened fire on Quebec's legislative chamber with a submachine gun on Tuesday.

The Canadian soldier taken into custody in the Tuesday incident, identified as Cpl. Denis Lortie, a supply technician, said his goal was to destroy Quebec's separatist provincial government.
