Vietnam warned by China over alleged invasion plan

China accused Vietnam Tuesday of preparing for an invasion along the tense Sino-Vietnamese frontier and warned Hanoi to halt provocations immediately or ''reap the whirlwind.''

Western diplomats said China moved ground-support fighter planes to its southern border area with Vietnam, but there was no evidence of any major troop movements by either side.

The strongly worded Chinese warning, published as a commentary in the official Communist Party newspaper People's Daily, came as President Reagan ended a six-day visit to China.
