Lebanese opposition figure says he'd take Cabinet post

Lebanese opposition leader Walid Jumblatt said Wednesday that he was ready to serve in a government of national unity and to work with President Amin Gemayel if it would help to restore peace to his country.

Mr. Jumblatt made the remarks in a French television interview here before a scheduled meeting with President Francois Mitterrand.

Opposition sources in Beirut have said Syria, which has been playing a key mediation role in the conflict, favored Jumblatt's participation in a 26-member Cabinet but that Jumblatt wanted to have a representative rather than serve himself.
