Seoul agrees to meet North on joining Olympic teams

South Korean sports officials accepted a North Korean proposal Monday for talks on forming a combined Korean team to take part in the Los Angeles Summer Olympics and other international games.

In a letter sent to the Communist North, the chairman of (South) Korean Olympic Committee proposed that the first working meeting on the combined team be held at the truce village of Panmunjom, 35 miles north of Seoul, next Monday.

Both sides have advanced numerous proposals for joint sports teams since the Korean war ended in 1953, but none have ever come to anything.
