Mondale turns the table on Hart in Delaware

Walter Mondale scored an impressive victory over Gary Hart in Delaware's district caucuses Wednesday, winning enough state convention support to earn nine of the state's 18 national nominating delegates.

Hart received only about 30 percent of the 198 delegates to the May 24 state convention, where he is expected to pick up four delegates. Jesse Jackson got 19 state convention delegates, which did not meet the 20 percent threshold needed to qualify for one national delegate.

Ohio Sen. John Glenn, who until a few weeks ago was considered Mondale's rival in Delaware, received only a handful of votes and no delegates.

State party officials and uncommitted delegates will make up the remaining four members of the state's 18-member delegation to the Democratic National Convention in July.
