Pope to visit Indian village on September Canada trip

Pope John Paul II is to visit an Indian village up in Canada's frozen northern wastelands during his visit to the country in September, the organizers announced Wednesday.

Pope John Paul, the first Pontiff ever to visit Canada, had expressly requested a chance to meet native people during his nationwide, 11-day tour.

Organizers picked Fort Simspon, a village in the Mackenzie River Valley in Canada's Northwest Territories, after consultations with native leaders.
