Anti-Ershad campaign intensifies in Bangladesh

Major opposition parties in Bangladesh, inspired by the success of Thursday's general strike, have intensified their campaign against the military government of Lt. Gen. Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

The two main alliances of 22 political parties announced they would observe a ''mourning day'' today to protest police action in opening fire during the strike.

Former Prime Minister Shah Azizur Rahman and former Home Minister Abdul Mannan were sentenced to a month in jail for their rule in organizing the strike.
