Canada protests to US over holdup on acid rain

Canada accused the United States Wednesday of shirking its treaty obligations by refusing to act now to combat acid rain. In a protest note delivered to the State Department in Washington, Canada said the Reagan administration has flouted US pledges to Canada and ignored international treaties.

The creeping pollution menace has become the biggest irritant in bilateral relations. Ottawa says a cleanup campaign should start immediately, but Washington argues that more scientific research is needed.
