S. Africa, Mozambique agree on security pact

Mozambique and South Africa agreed to the principles of a security pact in another sign of growing detente between southern African black nations and the white-ruled Pretoria government.

South African Foreign Minister Roelof (Pik) Botha met Mozambican President Samora Machel Monday for the latest in a series of talks aimed at normalizing relations between the two countries.

After the session, which Mr. Botha described as ''frank but not hurtful,'' the two countries said a security agreement would be signed ''as soon as possible.''
