Marcos opponent urges Philippinos to vote

A critic of Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos, declaring that this May's parliamentary elections may be the last chance to avoid revolution, is urging opponents of Mr. Marcos to campaign and vote as a step toward ousting the current leader.

Former Philippines Sen. Salvador H. Laurel, arriving in San Francisco Sunday after Philippine authorities detained him for 24 hours at the Manila airport on a gun-possession charge, said that with members of the moderate opposition in the national assembly, it would be possible to lay the groundwork to throw Marcos out of office.

Senator Laurel said he was arrested at the Manila airport Friday because a pistol had been planted in his luggage.
