Correction
Because of an editing error in a Jan. 31 article by Eric Bourne on Europe's environmental problems, it was stated that the spa at Karlovy Vary was turned over to industrial use. In fact, the spa remains there, but has been turned over to ''proletarian'' (i.e., worker) welfare.
