Connecticut town calls 'TV turnoff' a success

An experiment to wean school-age children from their television sets ended here Wednesday. The Farmington Library Council, backed by school officials, had asked residents to turn off their sets during January to encourage children to read, get more exercise, spend more time with their families, or pursue other interests.

The ''TV turnoff'' attracted international attention, and backers of the voluntary experiment called it a success.
