Hunt for $6 million pouch pressed by FBI, Brink's

The FBI and Brink's Inc. are pressing their search for a pouch containing $6. 2 million in securities that disappeared from the cargo hold of an airplane on a nonstop flight from Portland to Los Angeles.

Half the securities were negotiable, the FBI said, although other sources said a bank or brokerage house would most likely make inquiries before making a cash payment.

The pouch, taken to the airport by a Brink's courier, disappeared on a Western Airlines flight Jan. 10. FBI agents said Wednesday they could not determine when it happened.

An FBI spokesman said the penalty for the theft is 10 years in prison, a $5, 000 fine, or both. Brink's has offered a $50,000 reward for its return.
